I kept waiting for a dry window in which to run, but it never arrived. Cold and damp isn't a good combination.
Mother's Day was likely the most unusual celebration of the holiday since it started. Instead of going out to brunch, the alternative was zooming over a bowl of cereal. Our family zoomed in the afternoon over the game of JeoPARODY. (There are several versions that pop up if you search on Jeoparody, so tread carefully if you Google it.)
JeoParody was designed by the youngest who inserted answers from his mom's life. We aren't playing for valuable prizes, but it was fun to ask for a category and see who came up with the right question.
Wednesday I was in the studio to record my demo. Originally it was going to be in a Madison recording studio, but due to COVID-19 we did it from here.
I connected with my producer in Pittsburgh and an engineer in a third location. We could talk and listen to each other. The engineer recorded everything and made sure it was broadcast quality. My coach led me through 10 different scripts while offering encouragement, tips, and praise.
There were a few technical issues, but it went well. I appreciate their expertise. The engineer rolled tape and the producer asked for slightly different versions of various lines. For example, I recorded the phrase, "not really," five times so the engineer could choose the best take for the final version.
My guess is we averaged 10 takes for each script. After two and a half hours, we were done. The next step is the engineer edits those ten scripts into two one minute recordings for me to use in marketing myself as a voice actor.
Life continues to revolve around COVID-19. A lot of states, including Wisconsin, are starting to back off restrictions designed to halt the spread of the virus. That's good news, but we still need to be careful - wash our hands and keep our distance.
