Epic Ridge Rides

There were a couple great biking days last week, and I took full advantage.

The first was mid-week.  It was a rare day off, and I was anxious to get outside.

My ride headed west to Epic.  It's a local software company, that started in a garage 40 years ago.  They now employ more than 10,000.

Just having a major employer is a big deal.  One thing Epic is known for is its imaginative buildings.

It has themed buildings.  Each takes on its own feel.  Three large office buildings fit together as an over-sized farm house and barn.  One of the newest is a castle, evocative of Harry Potter's boarding school.

Epic has a reputation for good paying jobs that require people willing to go the extra mile.

There are a number of perks that come with it, like a paid vacation after 5 years with the company.  They support biking to and at work, with their own trail around campus.

Saturday, I used an older trail, that dates back to the original residents of south Wisconsin.  The Military Ridge trail was the path used by Native Americans, and later by European settlers.

The railroad followed.  When that era came to a close, biking and hiking enthusiasts rallied support to add the route as another state trail.

This was my first time on it in a few years.  It was a welcome return.
