My Week That Was - April 18

My "bent." 6/2/19 (dwm)
The only difference between the weekend and weekdays, is sitting in different chairs.

I'm thankful to be working.  I miss the office and the people.  The people of Oakwood are fellow employees and the residents.  I am looking forward to getting back when the time is right.

On Saturday, I worked on my bike so it's ready to go when it warms up again.  It's in pretty good shape - air in the tires and a thorough cleaning were what the doctor ordered.

The e-bike I like riding to work needs more attention, so it's at the shop.

This is week V of Covid-19 in Wisconsin and week IV of home-working.  The only things I'm really missing from the actual office that would be helpful are business cards and blank greeting cards.  I'm using generic cards found at home until they're gone and writing out my phone and email for people when sending old-fashioned snail mail.

Thankfully, the big stack of birthday cards for the second quarter of the year came with me.  They need stamps since I can't hand-deliver, but that isn't any problem.

The track at Verona High School.  4/15/20 (dwm)
Despite the calendar showing this week as the middle of April, temperatures topped out in the mid 30s the first few days and there was a wind chill 10 degrees colder.  Ouch.

To escape the wind, I tried the high school track.  The bleachers along the home-stretch block some wind and its location below a rise offers protection.

I chose the outside lane, lane 9.  The inside lane is 400 meters from start to finish.  Lane 9 is 461.32; which means 7 laps around lane 9 is 2 miles, while lane 1 needs another lap to go the distance.

Maybe that's why slow and steady wins the race.

Prior to the home-working and home-workout situations we all find ourselves in, I'm running outside consistently for the first time since I was in my late 20s!  Back then the kids were little and I wasn't very attentive to regular workouts.

My 30s were spent selling life insurance with more windshield miles than anything.  It was during that time, thanks to gracious clients and hosts who fed me every time I called on someone, that I got my heaviest.  Once I woke up to that fact, I lost the weight.

That was followed with a job switch that had me on the road where I took advantage of fitness centers in various hotels.  Then, when we moved into an apartment complex in Indianapolis, there was on-site gym where I began working out daily.  That's 15 years ago, and with few exceptions, its part of my daily routine.  I"m thankful for good health that allows me to keep with it.

Stay safe, stay home, and keep your distance.  Hang in there - we can do this together.
