"There's Your Dagger!"

The Packers' 100th Season hat had no magic left.

Green Bay's season ended with a thud and a whimper as any fleeting breath of hope was snuffed out when the 49ers kicked a field goal to go up 37 - 20.

The game felt over at the end of the first half when San Francisco took a 27 - 0 lead into the home locker room.

The Packers weren't particularly competitive, but I think that had more to do with the talent and ability on the other side of the ball.

The Niners ran the ball down our throats so well they hardly passed the ball.

It means the Pack are left one game away from the Super Bowl again - losing the NFC Conference Crown in 2014, 2016, and at the end of their 2019 season.

This was a successful season for Green Bay - but there is little doubt improvements are needed on defense (reinforcements across the board), on offense (wide receiver, tight end, and line), and special teams.

The glimmer of hope is that in his first year as coach, Matt LaFleur got his team to 14 wins.  It makes sense to me there will be signs of growth in his second and third seasons.  General Manager Brian Gutekunst will continue working the roster.

The Smith "brothers," Preston and Z'Darius, lead a much-improved defense and will be fired up to be two games better next year.  Aaron Rodgers took on a different role as quarterback this year, and expect him to be more comfortable in year two.

The dagger, to use play by play man Wayne Larrivee's term, is presented when the game is decided.

The 2019 version of the Green Bay Packers are done.  They won 13 times in a 16 game regular season to win the NFC North and earn the second seed in the conference.  They lost to the top seed in the Championship game,

13 wins was the total for the 2107 and 18 teams, combined.

As a fan, I'm hopeful.  For my money, hope has to be in a fan's DNA.  Find the joy - recognize the problems - cheer for the team.

It's a tough way to finish, but I know there were 14 other NFC teams that would have switched places with us!

Go Pack, Go!
