My Week That Was - Dec 21

The kids were up to visit at the start of the week and we spent time driving around looking at Christmas lights.

An annual part of that is cruising through the Holiday Fantasy in Lights at Olin Park.

My employer has sponsored a light in the parade for two years.  The park has one way in and one way out; after pulling through the welcoming arch, the cars become the floats, moving past the standing displays.

Since this week was the one before Christmas, and only two before year end - in the office we spend more time reaching donors one more time.

We wanted to thank them for choosing to support the mission and ministry of Oakwood; let them know how much they gave this year; and in cases where they were very close to the next donor recognition level, let them know.

Over the years we've done this, I've found half the donors are interested.  I believe it is better to let them know now instead of January, so they can do something about it.

This week was my fourth voice acting lesson and a few things are becoming clear... there are definite techniques I'm learning to interpret a script.  Still far from a finished product, that is for sure.

Thursday our team went out to celebrate the holidays.  We went to the newest location of Buck n Honey's in Monona.  It was packed.  From what I could tell, I don't think we were the only ones choosing to have our holiday party there.

We had a nice time, enjoying the company and food.  I ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich.  It was perfect.  The new location is spectacular - above the bar they've recreated a north Wisconsin forest with an incredibly accurate diorama.

In other stuff from the week... I've tried to avoid most of the coverage about what's going on in Washington.

Mostly, I find it unfortunate none of the principals are treating this seriously.

The President could react in professional manner, respond to charges, and urge those in his administration to testify truthfully.  He seems confident in his innocence, if he is the testimony will show it.

The Democrats could be slightly less giddy over the proceedings.  The charges are nothing to by happy about.  If true, it is sad that the person elected and sworn to protect and defend the Constitution mistreated and ignored it.  If false, the charges disgrace the office and the officeholder unnecessarily.

The Republicans understandably want to defend their flag-bearer.  However, I recall that during Watergate, somber Senators and Representatives considered evidence instead of rushing to judgement, the cameras, and their base.

If you ever served on a jury - you know the responsibility to listen to both sides, consider the charges, and weigh the evidence before making a decision.  I don't think it is a lot to ask of the men and women we expect (and elected) to put the country (and its people) first.

Maybe that should be on our Christmas lists....

Christmas is coming - only few shopping days left - I hope your holiday week is a merry one.
