Summer Day in Monroe

When a planned bike ride is washed out, it's time to turn for other Saturday amusements.

Which turned out to be a mini road trip landing in Monroe, Wisconsin.

The town square surrounds the county courthouse.  A variety of offices and businesses surround the square.

After a walk down an aisle of fresh vegetables, fresh made jams and jellies; and the purest honey I've ever seen - we looked in windows and walked inside several shops.

The downtown offers locally opened stores, restaurants, and pubs.  And cheese shops - this is Monroe, Wisconsin after all.  Monroe is in Green County, which is best known for its crafted cheese, especially Swiss.

We stopped in Baumgartner's Shop for a delicious lunch.  I had a slab of cheddar cheese on a Kaiser roll.  Whoa - it was amazing.  It wasn't melted, either.  Room temperature cheese between two pieces of bread is divine.

This summer - Monroe's square is
surrounded by Musical Art called
"Musical Chairs on the Square."

I was glad to have my camera.

As we walked the square I noticed comfortable Adirondack chairs posed on covered platforms.

These chairs were not for sitting, but viewing.

Other than a large guitar on one corner as the odd person out in a game of musical chairs; each side of the square was adorned with four colorful chairs.

Themes spanned musical decades from "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from Wizard of Oz to Elton John's "Crocodile Rock."

There were a few I couldn't place, but most easily brought music to mind.

See if you can find the Bob Marley, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffet, Beatles, Madonna, Elvis, Freddie Mercury, Prince, and Tom Petty inspired pieces below.  I'm not sure how long they will be on display.  If you want to check them out hurry to Monroe, Wisconsin!

If you can identify the other four - congratulations!
