Second Half Promise

Last season was tremendous as the Milwaukee Brewers put together a strong finish on the way to beating the Chicago Cubs to take the National League Central Division title.

In 2018, the Crew had a tough finish going into the All-Star break when they lost five straight to Pittsburgh in PNC Park.

This year, the team lost their last two games before the break (again in Pittsburgh) and five of their last six.

The difference is that 2019 comes with high expectations while last year was a very pleasant surprise.

This year's Brewers need to improve in several areas to earn a second straight trip to the post-season.

A very potent offense on paper hasn't been clicking so far, other than Christian Yelich, who is on track again for an Most Valuable Player worthy performance.

Bottom line, the Brewers need to score more runs.

In the field, the team is doing OK, but the starting pitchers need to find a groove where they can routinely pitch into the sixth inning.  Short starts in the first half forced Manager Craig Counsell to rely on his bullpen too early and too often.

For this team to return to the play-offs, the pitching staff needs to up its game.

I think both changes are possible for this very talented team.

The silver lining is this team is only a half game behind the Cubs after playing below their abilities.

The N. L. Central is tougher than last year, it will not be easy.

Hey, if it were easy - any team could do it.  Go Brewers!
