Chasing Unicorns

Maybe you've noticed, but Unicorns are pretty popular these days, and not just for little girls.  There is common usage of the word unicorn - referring to a person with specific or unusual talents.  Fantasy stories and games are populated with the one-horned beast.

The horse-like creatures have been around for millennia.  They were described by ancient Greeks in natural history writings.  It's often shown as a horse or goat type of animal with a long horn from its forehead and cloven hooves.

The idea of human unicorns seems to be talked about more in the realm of athletics than anything else.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, is a good example.  He plays above the rim and is known as a prolific and high-flying dunker.  He can also handle the ball and frequently leads the team in assists.  Giannis can rebound and play defense.

Most players are good in a couple of things, very few are good at three or four, the ones that excel in every situation are unicorns.

The unicorn taking off from the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau is named Imagine.  She represents dreams, action, and wishes fulfilled.

The Unicorn is probably the best known out of dozens of mythological flying creatures.  The others that come to mind.

My favorites include the Griffin, Phoenix, Hippogriff (half eagle/half-horse), and Pegasus.

I'm guessing all are jealous of the Unicorns fame.  The Pegasus is also put-out for never getting paid to represent Mobil Oil for years and years.
