Another Stone in the Wall

Lots of talk about walls lately...

While essentially the same thing, I think a fence is different than a wall in terms of how it does the job.

Both mark a boundary, but a fence allows neighbors to respect each other's space while getting acquainted and chatting across the fence.

I think the national fence proposed along the border with Mexico is more a political football than a national necessity.

If walls on borders are so important - shouldn't there be a massive one on the much larger and wilder northern border?  All the nasty stuff ascribed to the southern boundary could happen there as well.

Unfortunately, the wall; immigration; and those seeking protection are rolled into a on-going standoff and temper tantrum.

If there is a legitimate need for a wall - why not hold hearings and get expert opinions?

If the wall is politically important, why couldn't the Republican lead House of Representatives find the votes while they controlled that body of Congress during 2018?  The logical conclusion is that a majority of House Republicans didn't like the idea either.

Meanwhile, the grandstanding stand-off continues... both sides more concerned about appearing to win while failing to govern.

Just as you can win the battle and lose the war - in this kerfuffle the people lose the battle and the war.

It's too bad there aren't enough grown-ups in Washington in charge.
