My Week that Was - Dec 29

You always need someone to put the star a-top the tree.

My week, like yours, revolved around the holiday in two primary ways, because it is Christmas and because I took off work Monday through Thursday.

Monday was a travel day as we drove to Noblesville to join our son and daughter-in-law for their first Christmas.  It was a good trip, we arrived in plenty of time to relax, eat, and find a parking place at Cornerstone Lutheran Church for Christmas Eve worship.

Jesus' birth is the reason for the season as His coming is the best gift of all.

It was a beautiful service in the sanctuary of Cornerstone Lutheran.  My parents were active members there while they lived in Carmel, Indiana.  When we saw them at Christmas we were usually in the fourth row, center right, for the Candlelight Service.

2018 is the 26th straight year of Reynolds' light display.

After church we set out to look at lights around the community, finishing at Reynolds Farm Equipment in Fishers which has been putting out an extraordinary display for 26 years.

When we lived in Indianapolis we made the trip from the south side of the city to see the lights a few times.

I'd say this was their best display.

Christmas morning, I joined a few committed souls at the Anytime Fitness, then returned to our son's home for breakfast and the unwrapping of the presents.

This is the first Christmas for the bride and groom - it seems to me they are off to a good start.

Everyone appreciated their gifts.  I'm looking forward to using gift cards at Chick-Fil-A and Speedway Convenience stores (there are a couple in Madison) and digging into Ron Chernow's latest biography on U.S. Grant.

We were planning on staying in the Hoosier State until Thursday, but when our son and daughter-in-law started coming down with something - it seemed the best prescription was rest for them and early departure for us.

The drive was uneventful, other than singing along a bit too loud to the Billy Joel channel on Sirius XM.  I knew we were loud when a passing truck driver motioned at us to keep it down.

The early return allowed a day to recover before returning to work Friday.

I don't think the one day work week will be upon us anytime soon, but it was pretty nice.  A fair amount of the morning was spent catching up on messages and emails.  The rest of the day was spent thanking donors for their generous support during the year and trying to tie up any loose ends before 2018 runs out.

Speaking of time - as you begin your next trip around the sun with the new week I want to wish you a Happy New Year!
