Packer Post - Op: Dolphins

Each season teams face off against the squads in a division in the opposing conference.  This year for Green Bay it means playing Buffalo, New England, New York Jets, and Miami.

There are four divisions in each conference, so these contests are played every four years alternating home field.

It didn't really matter who the opponent was yesterday - Green Bay needed a win, period.

They got one, 31 - 12 in the Packers best offensive performance of the year and improved to 4 - 4 and 1 in the process to stay in the hunt for the NFC North Division title.

I was looking for a win most of all, but a win like this one offers hope we can get on a roll through the end of the season.

Second year running back Aaron Jones had an awesome game with 145 yards on 15 carries which included a 67 yard run on the Pack's second possession.

Aaron Rodgers had his best game of the season completing 19 of 28 attempts for 199 yards and two touchdowns.  His best throw was a laser to Jimmie Graham that looked more like the A-rod I've been watching since he became full-time starter in 2008.

The defense sacked the Miami quarterback six times, including three to end the last Dolphin possession.  Young defensive back Raven Greene got the ball snapped right to him on a fake punt early in the fourth quarter and gained 26 yards for a first down that lead to the final clinching points on a Mason Crosby 38 yard field goal.

It's the best I've felt after a Green Bay game this year.

There isn't much time to celebrate at 1265 Lombardi Avenue - the Packers go on the road for their Thursday Night Football assignment in Seattle's loud stadium against the tough and desperate Seahawks (4 - 5) who came up short yesterday against their division rival.

For Green Bay to get where they want to go, a win on the west coast is their best course of action.  A loss may not eliminate them, but I think a win will send them to Minneapolis 10 days later with a lot of momentum to take on the Vikings.

Their record doesn't look like it can get them to the post-season, but Green Bay's losses include defeats by the Rams, Patriots, Redskins, and Lions.  The Rams and Patriots are two of the NFL's top teams.  The other teams in the NFC North haven't played the Patriots yet.

Even better, Green Bay has beaten the Bears (currently leading the division); tied the Vikings (a game ahead of the Pack); and lost to the Lions (trail Green Bay with two additional losses).  No team in the division has more than one divisional win - which is keeping the door to the play-offs open.

Next up is a 1,465 mile business trip on short rest.  Green Bay's 10th game will tell me what we can look forward to watching over the final six.

Go Pack, Go!
