Election Day is Coming

Mid-term elections are usually ho-hum affairs with most attention going to whatever big race is on the ballot.  Usually that means a race for Governor or U.S. Senate.

Judging by the amount of radio and television ads devoted to some of the local legislative races - there seems to be a steady stream of promises, accusations, and charges between candidates and those somewhat mysterious political action committees.

In the cacophony of election babbling it is easy to get lost or fed-up over the political temperature.  There is a fair amount at stake nationally if the sitting party loses enough seats to change the majority in either the United States House or Senate.

Losing seats usually happens to the party which won the presidency because voters who favored the losing side are more energized to get out the vote.

You should vote.  It is a right too often taken for granted.  The right to vote is wasted as some are upset by the mud-slinging and stay home.  Some political experts are going for that response - counting on aggravating voters into inaction which makes it easier for their true-believers to carry the day.

It seems to me this country is better served when everybody votes.  While we might want "our" side to win - I'd rather see 100% voter turnout than less than half the voters (which is often the case) make big decisions for the rest of us.

If you haven't already voted absentee or through early-voting opportunities - make an appointment to do something important for yourself and your country this Tuesday - VOTE!
