Packer Post Op - Detroit

The first half against Detroit for Green Bay seemed productive on one level (no punts and leading in yards gained through the air and over ground).

But, and this is a big but, there were three turnovers and three missed field goals.

The turnovers were an epidemic:  the first - a weird Detroit punt that bounced off a Packer and recovered by the Lions at the Green Bay three leading to a Lions score.  The other two came on strip-sacks of Aaron Rodgers,

Frankly, it was a relief to only be trailing 24 - 0 at halftime.

The second half was better - Green Bay scored three times on touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers to Marquez Valdes-Scantling; a second to Lance Kendricks; and the last to DaVante Adams.  While they converted the two point conversion after the first one; they missed the second; and inexplicably veteran kicker Mason Crosby missed the point after on Adams score, leaving it at 31 - 20 Detroit.

The Lions didn't turn the ball over and took advantage of Green Bay's miscues.

The game was weird from the start with Detroit's punt.  The silver lining, I guess, was the work between Aaron Rodgers and rookie receivers Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeus St. Brown.

Crosby ended up with 4 missed field goals - the last from 56 yards (a tough try) -  and a missed extra point.  However, when the Packers got the ball back with a minute left - Rodgers got the team into range for one more attempt.  Crosby's last kick was good from 43, so hopefully that helps him get back on track.

Aaron Rodgers hit a personal milestone, becoming the fastest quarterback with 40,000 passing yards and 300 touchdowns - taking just 153 games.  In a loss, the record loses its luster - it is a big deal, just not today.

This game felt like one Green Bay should have won - but turnovers and bad penalties sealed the defeat.

The Packer take their 2 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie into a home game a week from tonight when San Francisco invades Lambeau Field in their last game before the bye week.

Thankfully, the Brewers swept their NLDS series with Colorado lifting the heart and spirit of many fans of the Brew Crew.
