My Week That Was - October 6

Alzheimers & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin.

My grandmothers both suffered with dementia at the end of life.  It is a horrendous and insidious disease.  What I remember is losing each Grandma when the disease took away their memory and personality; and a second time when they died.

Progress is being made in the fight, that creates hope for the future.

The walk I joined is sponsored by the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance.  It focuses on helping those struggling with dementia and their caregivers.

We need to do both.

It was a beautifully brisk, sunny morning as a large group trekked two miles around Warner Park.

Weather this week was all over the map.  It was cloudy and chilly on Tuesday (highs in upper 40s), hot on Wednesday (80), then normal on Thursday (60s).  Rain returned and its possible over the next week we might get several inches; which means last month's flooding problems are not yet behind us.

I took a trip Thursday with residents up to an apple orchard near Baraboo.  After picking up goodies from their store, we explored the area around Devil's Lake while admiring the emerging colors of fall.

A hearty and amazing lunch at the Sauk Prairie Grill hit the spot sending everybody home with enough food for supper.  This is one great place to eat!

The Milwaukee Brewers made this a great week over all seven days.

First, they tied the Cubs for first place in the division; beat them in the tiebreaker game to capture the National League Central Division title; and get two days of rest.

Thursday, the Brewers pulled out a victory in the bottom of the tenth in Game 1 of their National League Division Series.  It was exciting as the visiting Rockies tied it up, forcing extra inning; fortunately Mike Moustakas hit the game-winner sending Christian Yelich home.

Friday was another pitching duel in game 2.  Milwaukee was nursing a 1 - 0 lead after the fourth when they scored on consecutive doubles.  Then in the bottom of the eighth, three runs scored and that was the difference.  Needing one win out of the next three (two in Denver, one in Milwaukee - if necessary) to advance to the Championship Series.

Go Brewers!
