Packer Post-Op - Bears

The National Football League season is a roller-coaster ride of emotional reactions - each play, every game elicits thoughts of glory or disaster.

The first half against the Bear felt like a bad horror film.

The offense can't move while Chicago moves downfield for a quick score.  The Bear defense was running fast while Green Bay's line seemed stuck in quick-sand.

A glimmer of hope came when the Packer defense held the Bears to a field goal and then forced a couple of punts.

Which is when the roof caved in.

A low hit (which I thought was against NFL rules) below Aaron Rodger's left knee.  He grabbed at the knee before he was fully on the ground.  He eventually walked off the field under his own power.  After time in the medical tent, he was taken to the locker room on a cart for more tests.

Not only is this a bad movie - we've seen it before - last year, when the Minnesota Vikings were the antagonist.

At the end of the second quarter it was the Chicago Bears 20, Green Bay 0

Then came the second half.

Incredibly, Aaron Rodgers came back on the field with the team and was throwing the ball.

The defense held Chicago to a field goal and the Packers finally got on the board with a Mason Crosby field goal making it a 17 point deficit at the end of the third quarter.

I was hopeful and thankful that it appeared Aaron could play and we had a chance, although it was a long-shot.

The defense played better.  The offensive line shut down some of the leaks in the line.

Aaron Rodgers hit Geronimo Allison down the sideline for a 39 yard touchdown pass.  After forcing a punt, Rodgers found Davante Adams who made some moves before diving into the endzone to make it a three point game.

Chicago re-grouped and marched downfield.  The defense rallied to hold the Bears and Green Bay got the ball back with just under 3 minutes to play down 6.  Hope is alive!

This time, on third and long, Rodgers connected with Randall Cobb down the middle.  He was behind the defender and outran the rest of them with help from a timely block to reach the endzone.  Crosby point after kick was good.

I wondered, did we score too fast?  Could the defense make another stop?  Could anyone make a stop?

On fourth down the defense broke up a pass, but a penalty gave the Bears a first down.  Four plays later, it was up to Green Bay to run out the clock and take the 24 - 23 final score to the bank.

Whew, 1 - 0.  The cardiac Pack gets a much needed win with another rival coming to town Sunday.
Go Pack, Go!
