My Week That Was - Sept 22

We had another donor cook-out this week.  Which, to clarify, is an evening where we invite donors to dinner.  It is NOT an event where we put donors on the grill.

The dessert was amazing - a trifle of toasted S'mores.  Chocolate Mousse, graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate chunks.  Before serving, the chef toasted the marshmallows.  Delicious.

It's been mostly dry this last week and a half until showers returned Tuesday.  Since the ground is wet, hopefully it wasn't too much.

I'm paying close attention to the Milwaukee Brewers as they wrap up the last weeks of the season; it appears to be a steep climb to win the division, but if they keep playing as they have a playoff spot is within reach.  Go Brewers!

Wednesday was sing-a-long.  Twice a month, residents sing some of the hits they remember from their youth and younger years.  All the songs predate me, but since my Dad often sang in the car there are a number of songs I recognize.  "Ain't Misbehavin,'" "Love and Marriage," and "Linda" are just a few of the hits from yesteryear on our list this week.

A highlight of my week occurred at a memorial service.  The husband of the deceased spoke about his wife and how they met.  He described seeing her for the first time while playing basketball in a church gymnasium and becoming enamored.  Finally he found the courage to ask if he could walk her home, she said "yes."

On the third walk, he extended his hand toward hers expecting her to pull away.  As he told the story and said, "she didn't pull away!" the mixture of joy and pain was clear.  That day, he said, was the start of 68 years together.

Another thought to share, this one about getting older.  In life, expectations are everything, so if you have a birthday add 15 or 20 to your total; everyone will be amazed at how great you look!

You do look really good for your age!  Have an awesome, good-looking week!

Come back tonight, the autumnal equinox is 8:54 CDT, at the same time the Fall Blog goes live.
