My Week That Was - Sept 15

The IRONMAN bike race goes right
past our door.  9/9/18 dwm photo
We were not prisoners, exactly, it was more that we chose to stay home while athletes used our nearby street for a 112 mile race.

The elite, professional IRONMAN athletes cruised by our place around 9 am. Over the next three hours or so, we saw most of the rest of the finely-tuned endurance athletes.

Thanks to an IRONMAN app, we could monitor the rider we were rooting for and get back to our roadside chairs before he passed a second time.

It was interesting to watch up close.  While there is kind of a "look" common to these swimmers/bikers/runners - there are also quite a few "normal" athletes working their backside off to achieve the iron standard.

My hat is off to 'em.  Congratulations to the winner, but a cold drink and warm greeting is earned by every competitor.

Joining others for a cook-out is a great summer tradition.  At work last Tuesday, we hosted a a burger and brat picnic for several generous donors.  The weather was perfect, but we still felt the impact of the heavy rain over the last several weeks, as hovering clouds of mosquitoes chased us inside.

Wednesday was a productive day at work - which isn't a feeling you have everyday - so that was nice.

There is a professional group where I'm a member and it is looking for folks to serve on the board.  I raised my hand and attended a meeting to learn more about it.  Turns out their ask for help was successful and there are 7 candidates for 4 positions; we'll see what happens.

It was beautiful all week so Thursday was a perfect day for a rickshaw ride.  I had an opportunity to take a couple residents out who hadn't been on a ride previously.  We took a five mile trek around the neighborhood, seeing a large turkey family of 11 along the way.

Friday ended a good work week with several projects wrapped up or positioned to move to the next phase next week and an e-bike commute for the first time in weeks.

I hope your week went well - make your next one even better.
