The Brewers are in second place in the National League Central Division.
They crawled into the All-Star break with a bunch of front-line players on the disabled list. Their mojo might be on the D - L as well.
Despite a wonderful start to the season, it feels hollow when it seems things are falling apart.
In their final game before some time off on Sunday they had an opportunity to win. They had the lead, twice, in the 9th and 10th inning. They gave up the lead in the bottom of the 9th and then surrendered the tying and winning run in the 10th.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs are on a tear and climbed past the Brew Crew to sit in first place before games resume Friday night. There are 64 games to go, starting Friday when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Just nine days ago, Milwaukee was 18 games above .500 and on their way to fulfilling their promise, not to mention the hopes and dreams of fans across Wisconsin.
It is easy as a fan to over-react to the last thing all the time. Win a few and you think a World Series Championship is around the corner; lose a couple and your time is the worst of all-time.
Since the All-Star break is treated as the game's half-way point, I want to take a moment and look in the rear view mirror.
The Brewers have the second best record in the National League. The starting and relief pitchers are exceeding expectations. Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich, two off-season acquisitions, are doing what management hoped.
A number of players the Brew Crew was counting on - Ryan Braun, Manny Pina, and Orlando Arcia - have performed below expectations. Others like Eric Thames, Junior Guerra, Jimmy Nelson, and Braun have been hurt and struggling for most of the first 100 games.
In spite of that, this team is in the thick of the play-off race.
They and their fans want to be there when the season ends September 30 against Detroit.
To win the division, we need Eric Thames, Ryan Braun, Manny Pina, Junior Guerra to return to the field. While starting pitching did well in the first half, they need to keep it going and a frequently used relief corps needs to find a second gear.

General Manager David Stearns is searching for a a new player or two to deliver the extra punch needed to push for the play-offs.
This last week was tough to watch.
I'm still part of the True Blue Brew Crew and will be there Friday night when the first game of the rest of the 2018 season starts.
Go Brewers!
