Biking to Bucky, Part 10

It took a while, but biking to Bucky is nearly finished.

Last weekend I took off Friday morning to avoid the Saturday morning Farmer's Market traffic around the square and took pictures of 27 Buckys.  One was a repeat, the Golden Bucky at a new location, and one who had been in the hospital on previous attempts.

I have two to go.  One of them is still in the hospital as I write this and the other isn't going to join the parade for another month.

You will meet them later.  Today three more statues join the blog series: #48, 49, and 5.

Celestial Bucky - #48 - Artist Christy Grace

Before all the street lights, traffic, and buildings; the perch above Lake Mendota offered a great night sky of stars.

It's why the University put observatories on top of the hill, to look at the heavens.

Celestial Bucky brings the galaxy; those heavenly bodies; and the creamy swirls of the Milky Way down to street level.

You can even see the twinkle, twinkle of little stars in Bucky's eyes.

America's Badgerland - #49 - Artist Larry Schultz

Every Cheesehead knows Bucky Badger is Wisconsin and dairy products are Wisconsin too.

So it only follows the two iconic symbols of America's Dairyland become one.

It follows this could only happen at the University's Veterinary Care Building, which is where you find America's Badgerland.

Moooove oooover it's Bucky!

Look at the photos carefully, especially the details.  A big ol' Holstein cow is in lock-step with Bucky walking purposefully straight ahead.

From the back, the pair takes one step at a time.

I really like this biological fraternal twin version of a Bovine Bucky.  The animated cow seems to be walking right out of Bucky's shadow into the limelight.

It is impressive,  Nice job, Larry Schultz.

Gemutlichkeit - #5 - Artist Hannah Sandvold

Bucky is ready to host.

Gemutlichkeit.  Dictionary.com defines it as "warm cordiality comfortable friendliness; congeniality.

The Wikipedia definition is close to how the Wisconsin Department of Tourism describes it, "feeling at home when you are someplace else."

It is a German word, which explains why Bucky is wearing lederhosen, pants made of leather.
In the next blog, you
will meet the other

More than a friendly welcome, Wisconsin folk usually associate Gemutlichkeit with a party.  Parties are something with which Cheeseheads are familiar.

Bucky is hanging in a popular spot, a large public walk circling the State Capitol, steps away from lush green grass.

It looks to me like Bucky is ready to dance - I bet the first one is a Polka.

There are still 37 Buckys to see, come back Monday for more!
