My fourth time on the bike in pursuit of Bucky was the shortest in miles with the most Buckys! The long rides to Sun Prairie, Monona, Middleton, and Warner Park left the rest of the statue Badgers either on campus or downtown.
Just 25 miles on the odometer later, I collected 18 Badgers. It made for a different ride. I started with Bucky Alvarez outside Camp Randall stadium. headed to Union South, west to the UW Hospital and Clinics, and Picnic Point before heading into the heart of campus including a beautiful Graduation Bucky on Bascom Hill.
That's 39 pixilated Buckys, 46 to go. I hope you enjoy these different sides of Bucky Badger:
Broadcaster Bucky - #59 - Artist Dan Gardiner
All suited up, Bucky looks ready for his live shot to share the latest news from Warner Park.
I haven't seen all the Buckys, but this is the first one with blue eyes I've encountered. There are tinted contact lenses available, so maybe Bucky slipped in the blue contacts to match the suit.
If Bucky delivered the news, I wonder if he has an accent. I suspect it is a north woods flavored British accent.
He looks professional, and 60% of the time that is half the battle.
Grow - #65 - Artist Emmalee Pearson
If flowers are growing on Bucky Badger, they must be Cardinal red.
A patch of bright flowers has grown all over the big guy. He stepped into the flowers to discover they started growing from the inside.
Olbrich Gardens is a flower in Madison's community garden. It is another free public park with the grounds open to the public. There is a modest fee to visit the Bolz Conservatory, but it isn't a package deal.
Bucky stands outside the gates next to the parking lot welcoming guests to stop and smell the roses. That's good advice.
Rugby Bucky - #72 - Artist Tom Queoff
Bucky is a versatile athlete. Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Volleyball are the big ones at the University of Wisconsin - but he can suit up and play nearly anything.
Rugby Bucky stands near Monona Bay in Brittingham Park, I didn't notice a pitch nearby, so I think this is where they play pick-up games or practice.
The game started in England and if you watch the game you can see the roots of American football. It's an exciting, tough game.
Go Bucky - score the try!
Bucky on Ice - #73 - Artist Dan Gardiner
There are several artists who developed more than one side of Bucky Badger.
Dan Gardiner showed us a suited, smooth newsman and another in overshoes carrying an ice fishing pole.
It makes sense, he's a badger for all seasons.
There is a good bit of detail ice anglers can appreciate, down to a fish making an escape through a hole in the ice while Bucky looks another direction.
Since Bucky is a good sport, I suspect he was fishing catch-and-release.
Come back for more Buckys this Friday, or catch up on past Biking to Bucky blogs here.
