Word on the Street

Me, before looking for words on
the streets of Verona.

The Word on the Street Saturday was I was running poorly.

Maybe it was the late night after attending the Brewer's game the night before.  More likely, I just wasn't as as ready as I could be.

Just as the word on the street might say "no excuses," the word might also suggest there are reasons.

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

"Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.

"It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.”
Christopher McDougall - Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World has Never Seen.

There were no lions on the streets.  No gazelles either.  I was glad there weren't any dogs wanting to chase me!

Christopher McDougall's words actually on the street I read said, "...when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

The annual (2018 was the third event) run/walk raises money for the Verona Public Library to support various special programs throughout the year.

It's a good cause.  Especially with families and children on the street with those words - reading more and exercising more are both activities people of all ages should be doing.

Despite a rather lackluster performance it was still a good time improved with a small scoop of frozen yogurt at the finish line.  That can be described with just one word, Yum!
