What's Brewin' at Miller Park

This may be the most anticipated season for the Milwaukee Brewers since 2011 when the team won the National League Central Division.

They lost in the National League Championship series that year to the St. Louis Cardinals and haven't been back to the playoffs.

Tomorrow is Opening Day.  It is next year.

Milwaukee fan expectations are sky high.  A free agent signing and a trade brought two All-Star caliber outfielders into the dugout.

Just about the only questions are these: 1. Is there enough pitching? 2. Can the team stay healthy?

Starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson hurt his shoulder diving into first base last September, he may not return until the second half of the season. He is a top of the rotation starter and will be missed.

Chase Anderson, Zach Davies, Brent Suter, Jhoulys Chacin, and Brandon Woodruff are the likely starters now.  Anderson had his best season ever in 2017.  Davies and Suter show promise and question marks.  Chacin has pitched elsewhere in his career and Woodruff is so young he doesn't know what he doesn't know.
Miller Park will be rocking in '18

Free agent Lorenzo Cain and trade target Christian Yelich bring gold gloves and hitting prowess to Beertown.

Of course, while the Brewers lifted their payroll to nearly $100 million; the rival Cubs pay double for theirs.  Chicago is the odds-on favorite to win the Central.  Again.

I'm a fan, so I like the Brewers already.  I expect to see a team united in effort, hustling on every play, and working to improve through the season.

If the two questions aren't answered favorably, it will be a disappointing year.

That's not how I roll.  I'm excited and hopeful.  I look for Milwaukee to win 90 games and reach the National League playoffs as a Wildcard team.

Go Brewers, Go!
