The State Fair Covered Bridge at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. (7/30/2011 dwm) |
It was crafted in 2008 by construction contractor Dan Collom whose firm rebuilt the Bridgeton Bridge in 2006. (We will get to Parke County's Bridgeton Bridge this spring.)
The State Fair bridge honors Indiana's hardwood industry and 90 surviving bridges in Indiana.
The fairgrounds are in Indianapolis, Marion County - the center of the state. I paid my visit during the run of State Fair while volunteering at non-profit booth in the exhibit hall.
It stretches over a road which goes under the bridge and the west end of the horse track so cars can park safely on the track's infield.

It is a great place for folks to see and check out a covered bridge while doing something else.
Maybe it will provoke curiosity into why bridges were covered and learn why they dot the Hoosier landscape.
It's new, built in 2008. 7/30/2011 dwm |
