Murder on the Orient Express

Here is a film for grown-ups, partly because of the subject, but also because most people under the age of 15 would be bored out of their mind.

The theater was nearly sold out for our show - just two open seats in the front row.

The latest film adaption of Agatha Christie's 1934 novel introduces the idiosyncratic detective Hercule Poirot where he is trying to solve a theft in Jerusalem.

The movie isn't a comedy, but there are quite a few humorous moments, including the capture of the Holy Land thief.

Poirot wants a holiday, a vacation, time off.  But his fame and ability to solve crimes keeps him in high demand.

He is summoned back to Europe and books passage on the Orient Express passenger train.  There is no rest for him on the train either.

The person in the adjacent cabin to Poirot is murdered and it falls to the Belgian sleuth to figure out the killer's identity.

Unless you already read the book or saw an earlier version of the movie; you will be hard-pressed to determine the murderer.

I recommend the movie - it is a beautiful film with an engaging story.

Then you and I may need to check out Agatha Christie, too.  The woman wrote 66 novels and 14 collections of short stories.  Her website claims she is only outsold by The Bible and William Shakespeare.

The film's ending gives a not too subtle hint about a sequel, so we might want to meet the author.
