Peaking and Past its Prime

A perfect Autumn leaf.

Autumn is about color.

Bright spring greens yield to the dark, sturdy greens of summer.

As daylight gets shorter and the nights colder, the chlorophyll drains and color appears.

It is interesting the most vibrant colors come when the leaves are days from falling to the ground.

Where the wind scatters them about and rakes and leaf blowers try to contain them.

The one in the photo was on the sidewalk on my way into the office when it caught my attention.  I picked it up, took the picture, and placed it on a bulletin board.

Two days later it was done.  Brittle and shriveled; a crunch from dust.

The leaves are comets close to the ground with flames and sparks lighting ever-shortening days.

Enjoy the show.
