Game 7 - The Battle with New Orleans

1950s Packer Promotion
Saints 26, Packers 17

The first post-Rodgers game came up 10 Aaron points shy of victory on a dreary and rainy day at Lambeau Field.

Back-up Quarterback Hundley did OK, but was never in position to win the game for Green Bay.  It seemed to be his job to not lose the game, and I'd say he succeeded at that.

Early, it looked promising as quicksilver running back Aaron Jones darted 46 yards up the middle to put the Pack up a touchdown.

Cornerback Damarious Randall picked off a Drew Brees pass in the End Zone and Davon House did the same when Brees and the Saints were threatening.

Unfortunately, Green Bay couldn't capitalize on either New Orleans turnover.  Jones ran for more than 130 yards on the day.  That's usually good for the offense, but it wasn't enough.

Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the game and with Aaron Rodgers recuperating from surgery on his broken right collarbone, this wasn't the game the schedule-makers and network honchos envisioned.

The game stayed close and was exciting until Hundley took a shot downfield late in the game and down by 9 which landed in the arms of a Saint defender.

It was a fun game to watch with a bad ending.  I think Hundley showed promise, but the rest of the team (especially the defense) needs to up its play.

Most interesting today was learning Brett Hundley is only the second player named Brett to start an NFL game at quarterback.  There was a back-up with that first name who never started.  The other Brett starter?  A guy named Favre.  Some folks in Packerland were (and  maybe still are) hoping he might ride in to save the season.

Just searching for a few silver linings... it appeared our O-line is mostly back after finishing last Sunday with two starters.  Only Lane Taylor sat out and I didn't notice other injuries.

Green Bay falls to 4 - 3 and doesn't play until two weeks from today, a Monday night contest at home with the Detroit Lions.  I hope they take the time to heal and get a plan in place to move the team in the right direction.

Go Pack.
