Wisconsin Badgers - Fearless Forecast

The Badgers kick off their season Friday night under the lights at Camp Randall Stadium.

Unlike last year when a tough schedule reduced expectations, this year Wisconsin is expected to do well by fans and media.

The Badgers received top ten rankings in the Associated Press (9) and Coaches polls (10).

The defense lost key players, but have worthy reserves ready to go.  The big hole is Jack Cichy, one of the best players they had coming back.  He got hurt early in practice and is done for the year.

The offense is mostly intact with another year of experience.

Only the team thought 10 wins were possible last year, they won 11.  This year 11 seems like a reasonable goal to many - now it's time to play the games.

9/1 Utah State - At home the Badgers should definitely win this game.

9/9 Florida Atlantic - Another home game, another victory.

9/16 @ BYU - Their first road trip could pose a challenge.  BYU is traditionally a good team.  They are at home facing a highly ranked school from the Big Ten.  Bucky escapes by its teeth. As a TV commentator likes to say, "tougher than the experts think."

9/30 Northwestern - Undefeated after their non-conference schedule, the pesky Wildcats come to MadCity.  Badgers get the running game in gear with a convincing win.

10/7 @ Nebraska - The Corn Huskers have this game day circled, looking to get back in the 'W' column against the cheeseheads.  I expect this to be a very tight game.  It could go either way, but I think the kicker, Rafael Gaglianone, punches in the game winning point.

10/14 Purdue - It will be a long day for the Boilermakers.

10/21 Maryland - Wisconsin is on a roll.

10/28 @ Illinois - The Illini may be on their way back, but don't have enough ammo to take down the Badgers.

11/4 @ Indiana - The Badgers have done well in Bloomington.  I was blessed with seeing them beat the Hoosiers a couple times. Here's another.

11/11 Iowa - The closing stretch is the toughest part of the schedule, I don't think they finish undefeated, but expect them to hold of Herky.

11/18 Michigan - Coach Harbaugh and his understated team in Maize and Blue come into MadTown after taking the wind out of Wisconsin's sails last year.  Not today, coach.

11/25 @ Minnesota - This looks, in late August, like a trap game.  Wisconsin has owned the Golden Gophers and made Paul Bunyan's Axe nearly a permanent feature in their trophy case. Minnesota gets an upset.  I hope I'm wrong.

12/2 B1G Championship - Wisconsin wins the West Division of the B1G with an 11 - 1 record to face off with an opponent from the East Division.

Last year, Penn State came from behind to beat the Badgers and take the title.  Who will it be on the other sideline - the Nittany Lions, the Wolverines, or Buckeyes?

It should be quite a battle in Indianapolis and another championship season for the Badgers. Go Badgers!
