What would Lombardi say?

I suspect the coach might use the same phrase heard on a frequently played NFL films clip... "What the hell's going on out there!"

What happened to my Green Bay Packers?  This isn't the team I expected to take the field and march their way into the play-offs and hopefully the Super Bowl.

I suspect the coaches and personnel office are befuddled and mystified by the performance seen over the first ten games.

The 4 and 6 record is the worst in a season with an uninjured Aaron Rodgers since A-Rod's first year.

It's not a competitive 4 wins either.  There are some horrific losses - Titans and Colts - and uninspiring victories - Jacksonville, Detroit, Bears - on the ledger.

Early on, it appeared the defense could hold things together while the offense figured things out.  Unfortunately, by the time the offense came together the defense was mostly walking wounded and replacements.

I don't think firing coaches or General Manager Ted Thompson will solve anything this year.  As the cliche goes, "it is, what it is."

Mike McCarthy is in his 11th season as Head Coach.  Thompson has made the football decisions for 12.

They haven't forgotten all they know this year.  Green Bay is consistently one of the youngest teams in the National Football League in terms of the team's average age.  Thompson likes to draft and find undrafted players to built and mold into future Packers.  Most of the players have never put on any other team's uniform.

There are moments the team looks like the gang who can't shoot straight.  For fans and an administration with perpetual post season dreams - it seems unreal.

Six games left. These games will tell us about the team and the guys on the field, on the sidelines, and in the coaching booth.

While an avid fan for decades, there is a lot I don't know.  It's silly to think I know more than the team's brass.

All of us - fans, players, coaches, and team personnel - know these are not the Packers we were looking for.

Injuries have dismantled significant contributors to the team, but it feels deeper than just the guys who can't suit up.

Fans who can't remember the Packers B.F. (Before Favre) don't know what it's like to cheer for a team losing more than they win.  Trust me, it's not anything you want to get used to.

The winning is sweeter after wandering through valleys of steady losing (ask a Cubs fan).

This is not the peak which careens us into the abyss.  But EVERYONE needs (to borrow a phrase from Western Michigan coach T.J. Fleck) "keep rowing the boat."

GO PACK, GO!
