Die or Get Better

I usually don't get blog ideas from Larry McCarren's Packers Live, but Tuesday night he quoted his mother in light of Green Bay's fourth loss in five games.

"She said," offered McCarren, "when I was sick as a child, that I would either die, or get better.

"And the Packer season will either die or get better."

McCarren played center for Green Bay during the  not too much Glory days from 1973 to 1984.

He stuck around, becoming a sports reporter and anchor for a Green Bay TV station and joined the team's radio broadcast, a role he still holds.  He's part of the Packers again and hosts two Packer weekly TV shows.  He's a Packer for life.

Mother's wisdom is true for Green Bay's season and for nearly every situation we face.

While there are a number of nuances to each situation and degrees of options to consider, it either succeeds or fails.

While I'm a fairly ardent fan of the Pack, their success or failure isn't all that important in the long run.

Which is really the greatest thing about sports - giving all you have for something meaning so little.

Given the recently completed campaign season - what's left of autumn is a good time for sports!
