Fall Weather

We're having a mostly dry week at the end of September, and we need it.

The fields need to dry out and the crops need to dry down so farmers can get in the field for harvest.

Every growing season has its issues - too much rain or too little; too cold or too hot;

Many places had an excess of rain this year plus a lot more heat than usual.  It's been good for some crops, but we've noticed in our C.S.A. (Community Supported Agriculture) the tomatoes drank too much.

Jogging between summer and winter requires some ups and downs as well as hithers and yons.  I suspect we have one good dose of "Indian Summer" waiting for us in October and a real hard frost sometime in the two weeks.

If you subscribe to the Old Farmer's Almanac, a vintage winter could be in store for cheese-land.  If so, old-timers will enjoy it while newbies might begin to wonder when it will end.

Lest we get ahead of ourselves, it's too early to think about winter.  It's time to pick apples and buy gallons of fresh cider.  The weather is perfect for Friday Night Lights and exciting Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Yellow, orange, brilliant reds and lingering greens color our autumn canvas under crystal skies of blue go into our memory bank.

We might want to pull it out about mid-January.
