Every Four Years

It's time for the Olympics.

Over the next two weeks, we get to take in the pomp and ceremonies of the world gathering in Rio.

Whether its gymnastics (which we will be seeing a lot), swimming, track and field, or badminton - each athlete has worked the last four years with a goal of peaking right now.

U.S. triathlete Gwen Jorgenson (a Wisconsin Badger who left an accounting job in Milwaukee to train for the Olympics) has won 12 of her last 13 triathlons, but an Olympic Gold will define her career for most of us.

Which is how America watches the games.

We don't pay much attention until the athletes wear our colors and compete for gold, silver, and bronze.

A nice feature of the Olympics is the honor given to all who earn a medal.

In the sports we tend to obsess over the rest of the year it's all about finishing first since second is "first loser."

We can celebrate with the runner of the Refugee team trying to achieve a personal best.  We can honor a third place finish because it is really third place in - the - world.  How cool is that?

Citius.  Altius.  Fortius.

It's what each Olympian is trying to achieve.

It's the goal to be faster, higher, and stronger than the competition, and be faster, higher, and stronger than they've ever been.

Go Olympians - we're watching.
