It's a Long Way to November

We have one of the two major candidates all official now; the other will be in place by this time next week.

The shrill level on both sides is rising so fast; it's difficult to tell which is the most worried.

Honest passion is good, but a lot of it feels a bit manufactured.

There seems to be a lot of serious worry on both sides about what will happen to the Republic if the opponent wins.  A good bit of the worry is misplaced and some of it is a calculation to persuade people on the fence to lean their direction.

In an honest moment, I think many potential voters would admit neither the Republican or Democratic candidate is really the person they were hoping to see.

Sadly, the rhetoric seems focused on the large pile of negatives around the feet of each candidate.

It might be nice if their first debate required them to say something positive about the other.   The Republican nominee supported the Democratic nominee in this century's first decade.  She attended his third wedding, to his current wife.  They aren't strangers, but politically now it seems like the Hatfields and McCoys on a bad hair day.

None of which will help lead the country.  Whomever is elected, they need to reach across the aisle and search for common ground to advance the country.

Today, that seems as likely as either of these candidates being compared someday to the four guys on Mt. Rushmore.  So, maybe it's a good thing it's still a long ways to November.
