I saw this sign a couple weeks ago in the hallways of the grade - middle school during our reunion.
Suffice to say, none of those icons were known to us back then. And, if we could identify an icon, it most likely would have been a famous person.
Anyway, the sign's simple message bears repeating.
My guess, dear reader, is you use this method before every posting or sending a message. If not, this is a great checklist, even for email and old-fashioned snail mail.
Just imagine what our social media sites might look like if before we share something we determine if it is true; if it is helpful; does it inspire; do others need to know; and does it put others in a good light?
In thinking of it this way, I can see this being a real-life admonition in following the Eighth Commandment: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
Looked at another way, don't gossip! If we can't say something positive or constructive - it's better to say nothing.
Yes, it probably feels like the train has left the station on this notion. But we shouldn't give up the effort to improve our discourse.
Heading into July and the rest of 2016 - before blogging, Facebooking, Tweeting, or texting let's take a few seconds to THINK about it before sharing it in cyberspace.
