Our Home in Door County

Three years ago, we came to Door County to give zip-lining a try and check off our bucket list.

On the way home we passed through Baileys Harbor and were attracted a small four unit motel just off Highway 57 next to Lake Michigan.

They had a vacancy and offered a good rate, so we stayed the night.

Early the next morning we had an awesome wake-up call.  Sunrise over Lake Michigan.  The sky began lighting up around 5, and by 5:30 the sun was coming out of the water.  Wow!

The day and a half wasn't enough, so we went back this week (in case you've missed the last five blog posts) and were blessed to be back home in Door County.

Our hosts, Joe and Nancy, at the Square Rigger Harbor Motel run a great motel.

Each room is literally a stone's throw from the lake.

It's not crawling with amenities, but has wi-fi and cable and very comfortable beds and a nice bathroom.

Where the Square Rigger has no rival, is their view.

Even from the bathroom, you have a great vista.

This  is what you see (right) while taking a shower.

One of things I appreciate most about Door County is the local flavor.  Family owned and operated restaurants, farmer's markets, and attractions are the norm.

There's nothing wrong with national franchises - I use them frequently - but in Door County the local touch from the owners who hand me the key to my room is why it feels like home.

Thank you Joe and Nancy for a great time, we hope to come home again!
