Over the Dam

The most memorable scene in the movie "Vegas Vacation" was the family tour on their way to Las Vegas.

The Griswolds stopped at Hoover Dam.

Hoover Dam Guide: Welcome everyone. I am your dam guide, Arnie. Now I'm about to take you through a fully functional power plant, so please, no one wander off the dam tour and please take all the dam pictures you want. Now are there any dam questions?

So, every time I see a dam I think of the dam water and the dam trees and wonder where things go once its over the dam.

My last visit to Beckman Mill County Park, the water wasn't cresting the top of the dam.  The sound was soothing and melodic.

Just look at the dammed pond.  All that water, and a relative trickle is all that escapes from its banks and ventures out on its own.

It occurs to me that we might be a bit like the mill pond.  All this potential energy ready to move the turbines of our mind, our soul, our body and we only let a little go fulfill our potential.

Perhaps, in a controlled - directed - intentional way we need to be willing to get over our personal dam.

We can put kinetic energy to use helping others, fulfilling our promise, and move the stalled turbines of others.

Maybe there's something we can do today, to let some of our bound-up energy flow.
