Fall's Finale

Last week I was bemoaning what seemed to be a lost season of autumn. Well, I found it this weekend at Devils Lake State Park near Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Hills covered in quilts of Maple, Oak, and Sumac leaves dazzled in the sun.

Crackles of leaves on paths and roads add a snap and pop to the day's melody.

As we drove through the entrance of the park, hundreds of Maple trees created a tunnel of yellow light along the tree-lined road.

We weren't the only ones with the idea to head to the park for leaf-peeping.  Car after car streamed through the gates all day long.

Also, with Green Bay on a bye week there were more of us willing to leave the comforts of our game day couches to watch the Pack..

There is something quite special about a color weekend.  A grand finale splash of color drumming out shades of summer green.

Vultures, who apparently should have flown south weeks ago are hanging around to ride the updrafts and enjoy the view.  (If you look closely you might see a Go Pro around his neck.)

The primary colors put on quite a display.  If you live a little farther south, your color time is coming. Make sure you take it in.

The walk toward winter is getting louder, but it's nice to have it punctuated with the crackling color of fallen leaves..
