Ugh.
The conference opener should be hard. Iowa is always a tough match-up having won two of the last three contested inside Camp Randall.
The 10 - 6 final only hints at the hearts broken by the outcome. Bucky's boys, ranked #19 in the country going in, had four turnovers and still had multiple opportunities to win in the final minutes.
A turnover inside Iowa's five yard line? Ouch.
The defense on both sides were extremely good. Or perhaps just more ept than the in-ept performance on the offensive side of the line.
Iowa fans will rejoice in their defense; Badger fans will bemoan the missed opportunities. The all-time series gets closer, Wisconsin leads 44 - 43 - 2.
Next up, Nebraska. The Huskers lost to Illinois; a result I'm sure no one in the land of Corn was expecting. So expect two ornery teams next week.
Since Wisconsin's team is changing gears and re-tooling after a coaching change after last season, all isn't lost. A good season is still possible.
It's just expectations have grown so high through the years that even a two loss campaign seems a bit deflating.
Forward Badgers!
