Packers Memo: Game 1

The main thing, or the only thing as Coach Lombardi might say, is winning the game.

The Packers left Chicago with a victory.  That was job one for their business trip to the Second City.

Maybe, to put a positive look at it, coming back with a sizable list of things to work on will focus the coaches and players as they prepare for game two.

James Jones - welcome back to Green Bay!  #89 in the program, #1 in our hearts, made several clutch catches resuming his career in Titletown as if he never left.  Jones spent last year with Oakland after spending the first seven years as a Packer.

It started with Chicago getting what it wanted on offense as long drives kept the Packer offense on the sidelines.  They were getting field goals more often than touchdowns, though, so at halftime, Green Bay trailed by only three.

Lacy, the workhorse running back in his third year out of Alabama, took hand-off after hand-off from Aaron Rodgers and followed the blocks for positive yardage.  For the game, he didn't have a lot of yards but was quite productive.  85 yards and a touchdown.

You, like me, may have expected an easier time of it for Green Bay.  Chicago's gameplan and stout defense kept Green Bay within reach.  The Packer defense made more plays in the second half and Clay Matthews interception of a Jay Cutler pass late in the game set up the winning margin, 31 - 23.

So, after getting a satisfying taste of Packer football - there's hunger for more.  More savory bites of defense and a desire for sweet scores on passes from Rodgers to Cobb, Jones, and Adams.

Coming to town next Sunday night - Seattle.  The team that took Green Bay's place in last year's Super Bowl with a spirited rally to ruin our 2014 campaign.

The Packers and Green Bay Packer Nation will be ready.   Go Pack, Go!
