Fearless Forecast - GB Packers Memo

Here we go - it's Packer time again.  YAY!

Lest we forget, last season ended with our heads hanging as we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

But... it's a new season.  It's next year, as in "wait till next year!"

My fearless forecast last year predicted the regular season record but came up one win short of an amazing season.

Today we're in Chicago to renew the rivalry with the Bears.  The two building blocks of professional football have played each other more than any two teams.  Green Bay has won 90 times, Chicago  92 and they tied six times.  This will be the 189th regular season meeting (Each team has one playoff win).  Before Brett Favre arrived in 1992, the Bears dominated the series.  Since then, we (I'm a shareholder, you know, so it's we) have returned the favor. In the last 21 games played in Chicago, Green Bay's won 17.  I expect we even the all-time series this year.  (1 - 0)

Just in case we forgot who ruined our 2014 playoff run, the raptors land in Lambeau for a rematch. Good thing the home stadium doesn't have a roof, because it would be blown off in this Sunday night special.  Packers roll. (2 - 0)

Week 3 is a rematch of Super Bowl I.  It really wasn't the Super Bowl then, it was the 1st AFL NFL World Champship.  Vince led Bart and the Pack to a resounding win.  Replays are wonderful.  (3 - 0)

In the fourth game, Aaron Rodgers takes the team west to his home state.  San Francisco had a rough off season.  It should be a Packer win.  I'm hesitant to call it a win, but there's a lot of frustration from not beating the 49ers in SF.  (4 - 0)

Lambeau is home to the next two games.  The St. Louis Rams come into town with a tough defense. Just not tough enough.  San Diego flies in the next week.  I can't see Green Bay losing then either.  (6 - 0)

You earn frequent flier miles now with games a mile high in Denver in what is probably the last time Aaron faces off with Peyton Manning.  Rodgers won their only other meeting in 2008.  I have a feeling Denver wins.  (6 - 1)

Off to Carolina and the Panthers in week 9.  Green Bay rebounds against Cam Newton.  (7 - 1)

Divison rivals show up in week 10.  Detroit hasn't won in Green Bay since 1991 (that's pre-Favre). That won't change today.  (8 - 1)

At Minnesota on a short week before a home game Thanksgiving night.  The Vikings are due.  (8 - 2)

Favre's jersey is retired, his number unveiled in the Circle of Honor.  He might want to suit up, but he won't be needed.  Bart Starr walks on the field.  There is no way Green Bay loses at home on Thanksgiving night.  Enjoy the pumpkin pie and turkey sandwiches.  (9 - 2)

A week later, on another Thursday night, Green Bay drives into Detroit.  Ouch.  The Lions are hungry.  (9 - 3)

The Cowboys think they were jobbed in their playoff game last year.  They'll still be whining after this one.  (10 - 3)

Another two game road-trip.  First to Oakland where it's a Super Bowl II rematch.  Packers win.  (11 - 3)

Into Arizona where the team (and most of its fans) thought they would play last February.  This is a tough game which could go either way.  Edge to Eddie Lacy and a tough defense.  (12 - 3)

Week 17 at home against the Vikings.  It might be a meaningless game, but whether it's Aaron or Scott Tolzien, I pick the Packers.  (13 - 3)

The "third quarter" of the season appears to the toughest.  Each game is a battle.  It starts today.

Go Pack, GO!
