When You've Made it....

Many are the items populating the lists of "when I've made it."  A comfortable salary.  A nice home.  A nifty title, perhaps.

Journals could publish your dissertations. Children might recognize you walking down the street.  You could have an entire chapter in the history books.

It's a sliding scale.  So, what do you think will happen when you have it made?  Do you think you will even notice?  What if you made it and don't know?

Looking for validation can be a frustrating journey for anyone.  Part of the reason is the concept of having made it is an elusive, ever-moving goal.  You think you're there...

Yet  the tape is 10 yards farther downfield.

I think one way to measure progress is to look at your desk or your shelves; is there a likeness of you in bobblehead form?

Since it's possible to make your own bobbling head doll created - that's not enough.  It should be a bobblehead created in your honor and handed out to dozens, if not thousands, of people.

Bob Uecker has multiple bobbleheads.  There are two statues in his honor at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

His career batting average over 6 years in the majors was .200.  But during the career he started doing standup.

He got a break and a spot on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show.  He starred in Mr. Belvedere.  He stole the show in the movie Major League.

Ueck's been on network televisioin broadcasting baseball and on the air for the Milwaukee Brewers since 1970.  And Bob was part of the popular TV commercials he and retired sports stars did promoting Miller Lite.

The kid from Milwaukee who made it and stuck around is in the Baseball Hall of Fame (as an announcer).  Take a look, he must be in the front row!

Here's hoping you get a good seat and find your own bobblin' noggin lookin' back at ya.
