Another Amazing Park

Not far away is a large sloping hillside with a walking path cut into the prairie grass.  It's probably
looked like this since the glaciers melted.

But other than driving or riding past it, I still hadn't set foot in Raymond Ridge Park.

That has changed.

Madison has many parks.  Parks with a lot of things to do.  Parks that nod toward history.  And parks nestled into neighborhoods for kids to play and families explore.  Raymond Ridge is a neighborhood gem.

Just park on the street and walk up the hill. You'll find a basketball court and a playground.  A backstop for softball or baseball and a soccer field.  It's all very nice and offers a great view of the south and west.

It's the area beyond the ball fields where the park reveals itself.  An eight-foot wide path is cut through the towering grass.  The top of it looked down on me like NBA players parked in the lane. Only the wind bent it down to my level.

Like balloons hovering over the field, wild daisies add splashes of color to the landscape.

Yards like this are difficult to come by in a world of manicured lawns and well-tended gardens. It's a reason it is so beautiful in its randomness.

The field, the flora, and fauna will change and adapt throughout the year.

Now that I've "found" it - I hope to walk and watch the hill on a regular basis.

If you can find Madson's west side you should find it too.  Bring good shoes it's a good walk and either coming or going you will be climbing one of the prettiest wild spots in the Captial City.
