Smiley Face

Most of my blogs this past week centered around the small Wisconsin community of Eagle.  Southwest of Milwaukee and located near the Southern Unit of the Kettle Morraine State Forest it's a beautiful place.

Just the kind of place you might like for a home town of your very own, or one you could adopt now as your "new" old home town.

It has to be a great place, after all the town's water tower is smiling!  Their motto?  "Eagle, we give you a smile!"

Lots of communities, 26 according to a website, have a smiling water tower.  Six in Illinois and Michigan, three in Minnesota, and two each in Indiana and Wisconsin.  19 of the 26 in the Midwest - I guess we are the happiest place on earth.

You'll find Eagle's smiling visage peering over trees from its perch on top of a hill.  It could be happy because the Hen House Cafe is a short throw from the sparse bit of hair left on top of ol' Smiley.

It seems to me living in town with a happy face must have a residual effect on the citizenry.

Feeling a little blue?  Look up in the sky.  It may just be genetically impossible to look at the tower and smiling just a little bit.  Good ahead, try looking at the picture for a few moments.  It's OK, I'm not going anywhere, I'll wait.

Done?

Well, did you smile?

Sure you did - maybe not a full grin or a gleaming display of chiclets, but I can tell - you smiled.

Try your own experiment - looking at a smiley face makes folks smile just like telling someone not to think about the elephant in the room, makes them think about the elephant.

Keep smiling!
