On Knees

Just been thinking a little bit today about the stuff swirling around, and realized there are days when everything seems to work.

Morning arrives and you are up and at 'em before the alarm sounds.  The workout goes smooth and all of the equipment you expect to use is available when you need it.

Juice pours from the container into the glass without a spill.  Cereal tastes good and nothing lands on your tie or fresh pressed pants.

In the car on schedule.  The lights turn green before you get to each corner and the parking spot you've had your eye on for weeks is open when you pull into the lot.

Looks like a very good day.   It must be me, right?  Or something I did?

You wouldn't be the only one to think that way.  I suspect we all do from time to time, and sometimes more frequently than that, I'm afraid.

Then the wind gets taken from your sails; your legs come out from under you and you find yourself on your knees.

Bam.

The knees are a pretty good place to find ourselves.

Kneeling puts us in our place.  It makes us stop for a minute to consider our place.  From the vantage point of our knees, the world is a big place and we are not as large as we thought.

It's also a good place to pray.  A time to recognize my need for help and how dependent I am on God's great mercy.

It's a moment to recognize how I sometimes think I'm doing pretty well, without acknowledging who made it possible.  It's a good time to say thank you.

Paul offers a very good prayer from his knees in Ephesians 3:15 - 21
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—  to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Getting up (especially now) we might creak and moan a little which could help us remember a little longer how we felt while on our knees.

When I think about it, we can regain our strength and be stronger on our knees.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
