A Respite

Yesterday was a very, very brief taste of the spring to come.

Maybe not so much in the morning when the wind blew and skin seemed to freeze out of habit as well as the actual cold.

Just a tease, though.  The temps crawled above freezing for the first time in a while.

It smelled different outside - fresher, I think.  There was really a touch of spring that was nearly tangible on the light breeze.

Lest we grow used to such a thing, or feel moved to call it a trend with a second straight day of the same kind of weather, the thermometer dipped back below freezing and the teens were sufficient for outdoor ambient warmth (or lack thereof).

You would hardly know its close to March - which three days out feels like it will come in like a lion with snow in its mane - we expect snow to be a part of daily life well into March, but weather this cold is unusual... even for us in southern Wisconsin.

Anchorage, Alaska was warmer than reporting stations in much of the lower 48 on Tuesday.  Even southern states are battling their own version of cold.

If we can hang on a few more weeks, my friends, spring is coming.  Spring most definitely will come.
