Decorated for Christmas

It's been a hectic and busy couple of weeks.

For much of the last week, we had almost decided not to decorate for Christmas this year.  There are lots of good reasons for that:

1. Not enough time.
2. No family coming to visit - so what's the point?
3. Do decorations count if no one can see them?

More recent developments threw those reasons, or excuses (you know po - tay-toe/po tah-toe) if you prefer.

Just thinking about it didn't add minutes to the schedule, but the time in thought led to the conclusions that in 2014 less could be more.

Instead of getting all the Christmas gear out of the storage closet - we would get some select items.  Three strings of lights.  One small tree.  A couple dozen ornaments.  And some little Christmas knick-knacks to put on display.

Lights for Christmas remind us of the light of the world we welcome at Christmas - you can't have Christmas without lights!  Two strings went out on the balcony railing - a symbolic effort to light our small corner of the world.

You may have a large group coming for the holidays, or just a few friends or members of the family.  Even if it's one person - the evergreen (even artificial) represents new life we get through Jesus - and points others, quietly to Christ.

I don't know how old I was - but distinctly remember my maternal grandfather telling my mom why there were no Christmas decorations, no tree in their home.  It was some variation of the three reasons listed above.

My mom wasn't having it.

I'm glad we're not either this year.  Ten days until Christmas!
