Time in a Bottle

Days like the ones we are enjoying in south Wisconsin this week should go into a vault.

A vault we could open the third week of January after it's been below zero for several days and the glare of sunshine is merely a climatological tease.

Monday was its own gem - a crisp start to a day topped off with abundant sunshine and a high of 68.

Judging by the forecast, we will enjoy much more of the same today and all the way into the weekend.

It's why September is the best month of the year.  It ushers summer to the sideline with flashes of color and the wonder of breath-taking vistas.

Leaves are green with hints of red, yellow, and orange around their edges.

Yield to the call of autumn.

Fall is a time to pile up leaves for jumping.  It used to be a time to experience the enchanting smell of burning leaves, but for all kinds of reasons (most of them valid) those days are over.

If you aren't in college; you can't recreate the feeling of walking across campus on an autumn day.  The leaves under foot snap, crackle, and crunch in the symphony of the season.  Those gorgeous fall days are when I felt the college experience most.

You might be able to mix your bottle of college memories to create a new mixture with middle-age wistful memories, hopes, and dreams.

Bottles from other times of year are good too, with their own flavors, colors, and emotions.  But save today, tomorrow, this week... put it in a bottle.

Someday, you will be glad you did.
