Packers reach the Quarter Pole

The first quarter of the season is in the books and the Green Bay Packers are 2 - 2.

Yesterday's win over the division rival Bears 38 - 17 was not a work of art, but it was a win.

Go, Pack!

My observation for the the team over these first four games is, like the season so far, a mixed bag.

Just in case it's not mentioned in team meetings - I'd like to add my voice to the chorus urging members playing on the defensive side of the ball to feel free to make a tackle within five yards of the line of scrimmage.  Really, it will be fine... good things might happen.

It's a trend for this team to start 1 - 2.  This is the third straight year, and each of the last two the Pack ended up as Division champs.  That still doesn't make it a good idea.

Looking at the offense, it is more difficult to see what this team might be like over the next 12 games, but I see more results like Sunday in the future.  The first three games were against stout defenses.  The starting offense hardly seemed to work up a sweat during the preseason.  These guys are just starting to figure things out.

Yelling at the TV or making angry calls to call-in shows will not improve this team.  Only the 53 men on the roster and the coaches can do that now.

I like to think it makes a difference to the result whether or not I fly the Packer flag or wear the right combination of Green Bay shirt and hat, but I know it doesn't.  That's just a fun part of my game-day.

The Pack has already played three of their eight road games for the year.  Next up is a quick turn-around to host another division rival, the Vikings, in Lambeau Thursday night.

They get 10 days off before flying to Miami, home to Carolina, and on the road to New Orleans.

That will be quarter number two.

My preseason prognostication was 12-4 for the season.  This next quartet, I think the Pack will put 3 or 4 wins on the ledger.

So as gloomy as things were in Packerland last week after the loss to the Lions - the sun will shine a little brighter now.  It will really shine if Clay, Julius, and the rest of the D gets it rolling.

Go Pack, Go!
