Please Don't Play with the Giraffes

You may have heard about the over-zealous visitor to Madison's Vilas Park Zoo who couldn't just admire and love the giraffes from the people-side of the fence.

No, Amanda Hall needed to get closer.

As she related to reporters she didn't want to hurt Wally - but just wanted to love him.

Hmm, I thought that is why there were fences in place.

You can see from the picture that a person could certainly get through the fence without a lot of effort.  I guess that's where common sense is supposed to kick in.

A giraffe's kick can subdue and even kill a lion on the plains of Africa, so Ms. Hall should count her blessings that her zoo adventure wasn't her final one.

Apparently she is considered contesting her fine since she was kicked in the face by Wally and "shouldn't that be enough?" but in some cases a "stupid" tax must be paid.

Each of us have those days and instances when we either should or sometimes actually have to pay our own "stupidity" tax - thankfully for the rest of us - those moments don't end up on the front page of the paper.

As a result we now have a new tourism slogan for Madison:  Welcome to MadTown -Please don't feed or cuddle with the animals.
