It's Dang Hot! Let's Have Pancakes

After one of the most wonderfully temperate summers in the history of summers - we are in the midst of a summer sauna.

Please pass a towel my way, could you?

Day after lovely day of highs in the 70s and mid 80s reminded me why I was so looking forward to Wisconsin summers upon returning two years ago.

Now, as we slog our way through high dew points, higher humidity, and the wonder of "feels like" temperatures in the triple digits... only one word comes to mind.

Ugh.

It's not just hot.  It's dang hot.  Whew.

Mornings are started in a soaking blanket of foggy cloudiness that lets you know before crawling out of bed that this will be one very warm day.

Just walking to the fitness center produces a sweat, and that's before the work out.  I'm thankful for my inside job, and offer a cold bottle of water and appreciation for our brothers and sisters working road construction, on farms, and in a variety of places with little relief from a blazing sun and blistering feet.

It's humid enough that even thinking about going out for a weekend breakfast sounds like too much work.  Thankfully, the pancakes at home are pretty delicious and served in air conditioned comfort.

Light and perfectly sized blueberry pancakes and a glass of chocolate milk (not pictured because it was already gone) made a perfect start for a day of the heat and humidity.

Years ago, before most folks had AC to keep them cool - days like this were perfect for a trip to the movies.  We could count on the chill of a theater and the darkness to take our mind off the smothering blanket of warmth.

Now, we can summon the movies online or from the shelf-sagging collection of DVDs and VHS tapes (if you still have a player around to make those work) to pass the time and stay cool with a cool beverage.

I hope you are staying cool today, if you have neighbors around you without air conditioning - be sure to check on them and make sure they are OK.

Since I can't check on your welfare in person, the least I can do is help cool you off with a little picture from a few months ago when 90 degrees sounded appealing and a gentle reminder that it won't be all that long before we see snow again.

Stay cool!
