Topsy-Turvy

The headlines lately can really make you stop and think.

Maybe the headlines get you to close the laptop - turn off the television - and roll up the paper.

Just one thing after another:  planes crashing, wars starting, accusations of corruption, and the beat goes on.

It's as if there wasn't bad news - there might not be any news at all.

Lead stories on the news are rarely the heart-warming stories that leave a lump in the throat and some moisture in the corner of our eyes.

Yet, my friends, it's a very real blessing that fact is still true.

When the Boy Scout helps elderly woman story leads the news - then you'll know this planet has officially jumped the shark.

News, by definition, has to be something unusual or new.  Good things happening - as rare as that can seem sometime - is still an everyday occurrence.  We just don't notice all those great things happening around our world.

Yesterday, I happened on to Dave Kallmann's blog in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal - JSOnline about the just completed Brickyard 400.  He relates the story of the aptly named John Wayne Walding whose name was on the race courtesy of Crown Royal.  If you take a moment, you'll enjoy a refreshing story of a recent veteran of our country's Armed Forces thankful in the midst of adversity.

There is no doubt we have many things to be praying about these days, my friends.  We can ask our Father for good judgement; faithful leadership by our leaders; wisdom; discernment; and recognition of Who is really in charge.

While we're praying, let's give thanks for John W. Walding, the men and women like him, and all those around the world who go about doing their best to make the world a better place.

Thinking about good news - it seems incredible that so much time has past, but it's time again to wish Matthew a very Happy Birthday.  He's traveled a long way in a relatively short time, but he's also come a long way.  Happy Birthday, son.
